About me

Who am I?
Hello, I'm Mimi. I'm 27 and live in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex with my husband and our son, Felix, who was born in September, 2014. I'm currently a stay at home mum and I'm trying to make the best of every moment before I have to return to work.

Why the blog?
I often have a yearning to do something arty, but I've shied away from projects simply because I believe I'm just not creative. Why do we do that? Those of us who have an urge to create, but lack natural flair are often found declaring that we're 'not creative' or that we 'don't have an artistic eye'. In essence, we give up before we start because we're not accomplished straight away. Just the other day I asked my mum if she'd done any painting yet (on a recent whim she had bought an easel, brushes, canvas and paints, the whole shebang), she replied that she'd given it a go, but she wasn't any good so she wouldn't be do any more painting. If you decided you would be quite interested in taking up tennis despite never even holding a racquet before you would not expect to be a brilliant tennis player on your first go, or even in the near future. You would appreciate that it would take time to become good, you might even have classes or get a coach to help you improve. And unless you were hoping to end up at Wimbledon (playing, as oppose to spectating) you would be perfectly satisfied that you were just having fun learning. Why do we novices dabble in arts and give ourselves a hard time because it's not instantly perfect?

So I have decided to give myself a break, and the purpose of this blog is to hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Who cares if our decoupage has wrinkles, cakes don't rise or nail art is a bit smudgy. As long as we have fun and we're proud of what we've achieved (even if all we achieved is having fun making an awful mess!) it really doesn't matter.
